✅ J2Hundy Valley Guard Gasket Installation Guide

Toyota 3UR-FE & 1UR-FE Engine

Built by wrench-turners, for wrench-turners. So plan this out!! Set aside a few days tops so you are not in a rush over one day to hammer this through!! Plan on needing breaks and another vehicle for food and beer and parts runs. This is doable by you, but you need to not be rushed. 3 days is plenty, 2 days if you are handy and do a lot of wrench turning yourself. The worst part with it all will be the air injection behind and below the intake. A few bolts will seem hard to reach. That’s because they will be. You got this. Just take breaks. Lastly, Use Permatex High Temp Gray RTV with this gasket. Any sentence you read below that says RTV, I am referencing the Permatex High Temp Gray.

📋 Pre-Installation Checklist

☐ All old RTV, oil, and coolant removed from the valley plate and engine block

☐ Surfaces cleaned with acetone or brake cleaner using lint-free shop towels

☐ A shop vacuum will go a very long way as will a plastic scraper and brass brushes

🛠 Step-by-Step Installation

1. 🔍 Dry Fit & Inspection

☐ Place the J2Hundy Valley Guard Gasket onto the clean valley plate

☐ Confirm bolt hole alignment and orientation—no stretching or forcing

2. 🧪 RTV Application – The “Goldilocks” Method

Goal: RTV is a micro-sealant, not a gasket. A little goes a long way.

☐ Apply a razor-thin (≤1mm) even coat of RTV to the engine valley plate side

☐ Seat the gasket onto the engine valley plate

☐ Apply a thin layer of RTV to the side of the gasket now facing engine block

☐ Ensure RTV layer is thin enough to barely see the gasket texture

☐ Wipe off any excess—no blobs, beads, or smears

☐ Double-check alignment before RTV skins over

3. 🔩 Install the Valley Plate

☐ Install the new O-ring on the water pipe

☐ Lubricate O-ring with silicone O-ring lubricant

☐ Insert the water pipe into the engine

☐ Carefully align the water pipe from the engine block with the valley plate as you lower the valley plate towards its home on the engine block. You will need to finesse this step to seat the O-rings on both sides of the water pipe into their respective locations at the engine and the valley plate—all while avoiding contact that could disturb the gasket or RTV. Take your time. Precision here prevents leaks.

☐ Start all bolts by hand to avoid cross-threading

☐ Tighten finger-tight using a center-out, crisscross pattern

☐ Wait 45 minutes before final torque

4. 🧰 Final Torque

☐ Torque bolts using the same crisscross pattern to OEM spec (17–19 ft-lbs)

5. ⏳ Curing & Final Inspection

☐ Allow RTV to cure at least 1 hour before adding fluids if in a rush but we’d rather you use the following step below!!!

☐ For best results, let sit 24 hours for full cure

☐ Do not disturb the plate once torqued

☐ Final inspection for:

·        Missed bolts

·        Loose connections

·        Water pipe O-ring seal integrity

🧠 Final Thoughts & Reminders

✅ Thin, even RTV = Proper seal

✅ Oil-free surface = No leaks

✅ Correct torque = Long-lasting install
